In order to help improve cancer research, I have decided to support Macmillan Cancer Support's initiative and I will not to drink alcohol in October. I think it will be challenging, especially now that cold days are approaching... but I know I can do it! And you should also sign up for the challenge!

The official website lists some benefits of going sober for October:
  • Increased energy levels, higher productivity
  • Clearer head
  • No more hangovers
  • Sleeping better / snoring less
  • Weight loss
  • Clearer skin
  • Healthier bank balance / Save money
  • Sense of achievement
  • Fresh approach to alcohol consumption
  • Generally feel healthier
  • Doing something positive for a good cause
It will be the right time to take up a new sport, change habits, be more healthy... and the most important: improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

The number of people with cancer is growing every day. Statistics are scary. Everybody knows someone. BBC's headline the 7th June 2013 was "Half of the UK population will get cancer in lifetime" and the truth is that cancer has become a very common disease now. Research is crucial, and UK Cancer Research is doing a good job here. However, support is as important as research. Macmillan provides cancer support to everyone suffering from cancer and erradicate the "feeling of isolation and loneliness that so many people experience".

Let's all of us join the initiative and donate the money we would have spent in drinks!
